Bitdefender VPN can make your internet faster in some situations, including when your Internet Service Provider is artificially slowing your connection in response to online activities such as streaming, torrenting and gaming. ISPs practice bandwidth throttling to prevent network congestion during peak hours. Fluctuations or slow connection speeds can be frustrating, but you can use your VPN to bypass this limitation.
Many ISPs around the world throttle specific services or destinations to either prioritize other types of traffic across their network or simply to discourage subscribers from using a service.
Tips on how to increase the speed of your internet connection with a Bitdefender VPN:
When using Bitdefender VPN, you can connect to any of the 4,000+ servers in over 49 locations. But if you select a server far from your actual location, it could slow down your internet speed, as your encrypted data "travels" more. The further the server is from your location, the longer it'll take to transmit data to the external VPN server.
So, unless you have a good reason to connect to a specific location, for example, to unblock content available only there, let your Bitdefender VPN select the fastest one for you, by connecting to Automatic.
Your Bitdefender VPN lets you choose which sites and apps you want to run through the VPN, and which ones you'd like to access the internet directly (and faster as traffic is not encrypted).
If you trust the website you're trying to access, let it access the Internet outside your VPN connection.
To do so, go to settings, Split Tunneling and proceed to manage the websites, by pressing the + button to add/type in the URL of the trusted website you want to access outside of the VPN connection.
Check and shut down the apps and programs running quietly in the background on your device as they may be consuming processing power and bandwidth.
Run a quick test and check your internet speed with and without a VPN. Your VPN can’t give you faster speeds if the problem is your internet connection itself,
Stay safe
Your internet speed may be subject to some slight slowdown when using a VPN. This is due to the extra step created by routing your traffic through a VPN server. However, it is important to remember that this trade-off in speed is often worth it for the added security and privacy that a VPN provides.
