Official Facebook UK Page Hacked

Facebook's official UK page has been temporarily taken over by an unknown third party who posted weird messages about cricket and a former Pakistani prime minister's release from jail.

When regular users lose access to their Facebook account, it's usually because they used the same password on other online services that suffered a data breach or they fell prey to a phishing attack. The advice is usually the same: change the password and use different passwords for each online service. But what happens when official accounts belonging to the actual social network are taken over?

This is exactly what occurred over the weekend when someone managed to hack into Facebook UK's official page and started to post a flurry of messages after seemingly discovering that it's possible.

"No idea why I suddenly have access to post stuff as Facebook. Or have I got it completely wrong and I'm not posting as Facebook UK," said the person responsible for the hack on Facebook, according to a Daily Mail report.

He then started a rant about cricket and about visas issued to Pakistani journalists.

"Let me take this opportunity to let ICC [International Cricket Council] &BCCI [Board of Control for Cricket in India] know they have completely botched the event by not issuing visas to people wanted to watch Cricket World Cup in person," he added.

A few minutes later, he added, that "They should allow visas to Pakistani journalists and fans to visit the beautiful India. Come on people!"

Finally, he added that Imran Khan, former Prime Minister of Pakistan who's currently imprisoned on corruption charges, should be released.

All in all, whoever took over Facebook's official UK page posted for about 40 minutes before he was booted out and the page suspended. In fact, two days after the incident, the page is still suspended, with no indication of what actually happened.
