Leaked S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 dev builds have surfaced online, leaving users to wonder if it was somehow related to the GSC Game World security incident a couple of months ago or if it's another issue entirely.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 is a game developed by GSC Game World with a release date set for the end of 2023. The studio had many problems over the years, including relocating most of its employees to Prague due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
A few months ago, hackers compromised an employee's account and stole several unknown assets from the company. Unlike similar incidents, the attackers didn't use ransomware or other malware; they just issued a list of demands which they enforced under the threat of blackmail.
· Change your mind, rethink your attitude towards players from Belarus and Russia, apologize for the unworthy attitude towards ordinary players from these countries.
· We suggest unbanning the N.F. Star profile in your official Discord - you banned me for nothing, because of this I had to stop holding back.
· A separate issue is the return of ru-localization. Fans are waiting for it from your official company. It is not necessary to spoil the game for people because of politics.
It's unclear if the recent leak is related to the initial incident. A Reddit user noticed S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 dev builds have popped up online. They're encrypted, and the uploader remains unknown, but one of the theories posed by the community is that the images might have been leaked mistakenly by the studio itself.
Unlike the March incident, this leak is not accompanied by threats or discussions on Russian social media, so it may be a different security incident. GSC Game World has yet to issue any statements on the situation.
