Spanish Interior Minister: One in every five crimes is committed online

Cybercrime in Spain has reached unprecedented levels, with the Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska revealing that cybercrimes now account for 20% of the country's registered offenses. Reported cases of cybercrime were up 72% in 2022 compared to 2019, and 352% compared to 2015. According to the same source, almost 90% of cybercrimes reported in 2022 involved online fraud schemes.

Grande-Marlaska said in the same press conference that police would be given additional staff, funding, and resources to address online crime.
