How to Disable Safari’s Built-in Password Manager on macOS

Safari’s built-in password manager, iCloud Keychain, helps store and autofill login credentials for websites. If you use a third-party password manager like Bitdefender SecurePass or don’t want Safari storing your passwords, you can turn off this feature.

Follow these steps to stop Safari’s password-saving prompts on your Mac computer.

Step 1: Open Safari Settings

  1. Launch Safari on your Mac.
  2. Click Safari in the top menu bar.
  3. Select Settings (or Preferences on older macOS versions) from the dropdown menu.

Step 2: Disable AutoFill Web Forms

  1. Click on the AutoFill tab in the window that pops up.
  2. Uncheck all autofill options to prevent Safari from automatically saving and filling in login credentials:
    • Using information from my contacts
    • User names and passwords
    • Credit cards
    • Other forms

AutoFill > disable Safari password manager

  1. Close the AutoFill window. Safari will automatically save your settings.

After making these changes, Safari will no longer ask to save your passwords. You can now use your preferred password manager without interference.
