Bitdefender delivers optimal performance and an expanded feature set on our Hydra Catapult protocol. We suggest our users use Hydra Catapult for the complete Bitdefender VPN experience. While each protocol has its benefits, some features are limited for certain protocols in the current implementation of Bitdefender VPN.
In this article, we’ll explore how each protocol affects certain features on a per-platform basis. Stay tuned for future updates of Bitdefender VPN! We are working on expanding our feature set for all protocols and adding more layers and customisation for your online protection and anonymity.
Android
On Android, the following features are limited for Wireguard, OpenVPN TCP and OpenVPN UDP:
- Split tunneling – websites. Users will still have access to split tunneling – apps on all protocols.
- Ad blocker and anti-tracker is a Hydra Catapult exclusive feature.
- Double-hop. Traffic will only be routed through the exit node.
- Allow connection to local network. Devices connected to Bitdefender VPN will not be able to view and connect to other devices on the same network.
iOS
On iOS, the following features are limited for Wireguard and IPSec:
- Split tunneling – websites.
- Ad blocker and anti-tracker is a Hydra Catapult exclusive feature.
- Double-hop. Traffic will only be routed through the exit node.
Windows
On Windows, the following features are limited for Wireguard, OpenVPN TCP and OpenVPN UDP:
- Split tunneling – websites. Users will still have access to split tunneling – apps on all protocols
- Ad blocker and anti-tracker is a Hydra Catapult exclusive feature.
- Double-hop. Traffic will only be routed through the exit node.
macOS
On macOS, the following features are limited for Wireguard:
- Split tunneling – websites.
- Ad blocker and anti-tracker is a Hydra Catapult exclusive feature.
The Wireguard protocol requires macOS Ventura 13.3 or later.
