The official Twitter and Youtube accounts of the US Military Central Command (CENTCOM) were temporarily seized by CyberCaliphate, a cyber-group associating itself with ISIS, according to news reports.
After gaining access to the social media accounts, the group posted links to alleged internal documents belonging to CENTCOM, along with a message that reads:
Pentagon networks hacked. AMERICAN SOLDIERS WE ARE COMING, WATCH YOUR BACK. ISIS. #CyberCaliphate.”
On Pastebin, the group left a message identifying itself:
You’ll see no mercy infidels. ISIS is already here, we are in your PCs, in each military base. With Allah’s permission we are in CENTCOM now,” they said. “We won’t stop! We know everything about you, your wives and children.”
The hackers warned of attacks on US army members, posting an archive with what they claim to be names, addresses and contact information of serving and retired Army officers.
Also, CENTCOM`s YouTube page was set to display propaganda videos in support of ISIS. “We can confirm that the Centcom Twitter and YouTube accounts were compromised earlier today,” a Central Command spokesperson said. “We are taking appropriate measures to address the matter. We have no further information to provide at this time.”
Following the hack, both accounts were suspended. CENTCOM said no confidential information was taken.
