October is #CybersecurityAwarenessMonthand this year we’ve got another fun campaign featuring nifty little creatures that know a thing or two about privacy and security. Today, we welcome Backup Chipmunk. He loves having two of everything, and he think humans should do too.
Bitdefender data shows that cyberattacks on home users – especially ransomware attacks – are frighteningly common. In fact, the most notorious names in ransomware now dedicate considerable resources to hitting home users.
While good cybersecurity hygiene is important, threat actors constantly improve their attacks, finding novel ways to break into our devices and steal data.
Backup Chipmunk is all-too familiar with thieves. Having spent all his life hiding nuts in various corners of the forest, he knows full well it’s only a matter of time before adversaries find a stash.
“That’s why it’s vital to have two of everything. You see, us chipmunks aren’t the only creatures to munch on acorns during the cold season. Woodpeckers and crows will happily snack on my hard-earned nuts. Rabbits and raccoons will not shy away from robbing my burrows either. Not to mention my cousins, the squirrels! So I make sure to fill up at least an extra burrow before winter hits. You guys would be smart to treat your precious digital data in much the same way. You can’t be too sure with your back turned. Gotta run. Winter is coming. Chuck-chuck!”
Indeed, keeping regular backups of your precious family photos, digital projects, music and movies ensures you can recuperate your digital life should your files get deleted or encrypted with ransomware. In fact, it’s a good idea to copy your essential files to an external storage unit purely because your computer’s hard drive might one day fail. So either way you look at it, Backup Chipmunk is right: having two of the same thing ensures your data stays intact!
Bitdefender Total Security blocks ransomware attacks, further minimizing the risk of data loss.
Stay safe!
