A month after it suffered a hacking attack, the organization that manages criminal records in the UK (ACRO) still faces disruptions affecting thousands of people's lives, writes BBC.com.
The incident, confirmed on March 21, prompted a service outage that prevented authorized users from accessing records for background checks, visa applications, and other services.
It is unclear what specific personal data was exposed in the incident but "there is the possibility that data sent to it by customers such as identification information and any criminal conviction data was affected," according to the Evening Standard.
Breaches can affect people long after they happen. In today's digital world, full of online incidents, it may be a good idea to use a monitoring service to find out when and what type of your personal information shows up online. It is the only way to stay on top of breaches, as looking up your data through search engines only gives you superficial results and doesn't cover the obscure corners of the internet, such as the Dark Web.
Bitdefender Digital Identity Protection continuously monitors your data, letting you know the following:
You can instantly check if your data leaked in a recent (or old) breach. It only needs your email address and phone number to crawl data leaked from breaches to see if your information was exposed. You get a list of organizations that revealed your details and what personal information was disclosed.
Bitdefender Digital Identity Protection scans millions of websites and monitors the underground networks to check if your information was leaked on the Dark Web. You can see your digital footprint at a glance.
Notifications from Bitdefender Digital Identity Protection include actionable advice about what you should do next to secure your online accounts and digital identity
