Comcast Allegedly Threatens to Terminate Service to TOR Users

Comcast subscribers who use the anonymous TOR browser have been reportedly threatened by the company with service termination if they continue to use the “illegal” browser, according to the Deepdotweb.

Comcast’s customer representatives told customers that the use of TOR is against its policies and “illegal”.

“Users who try to use anonymity, or cover themselves up on the internet, are usually doing things that aren`t so-to-speak legal,” a Comcast customer representative allegedly said. “We have the right to terminate, fine, or suspend your account at anytime due to you violating the rules.”

Comcast currently monitors its customers’ internet use to prevent them from downloading pirated media. This plan, dubbed “Six Strikes,” allows customers to get six notifications when downloading copy-written material before their service is terminated.

“We respect customer privacy and security and would only investigate the specifics of a customer`s account with a valid court order,” a Comcast spokesperson said. “And if we`re asked by a court to provide customer information, then we ask for a reasonable amount of time to notify the customer so they can decide if they would like to hire a lawyer and if they do, then we turn the case over to them and they proceed with the judge directly and we step away.”

Comcast has a history of collaboration with the law enforcement, as they provided information to the FBI on Ross Ulbricht’s internet usage, the alleged Silk Road founder.

The Tor project has previously listed Comcast as a Bad ISP, as it’s not friendly to Tor usage.
