After the massive LinkedIn password breach, dating site eHarmony confirmed a smaller attack on its users. Around 1.5 million passwords were allegedly released on InsidePro, the same Russian forum that recently published LinkedIn hashes.
“After investigating reports of compromised passwords, we have found that a small fraction of our user base has been affected,” said Becky Teraoka, the website`s representative. “We are continuing to investigate but would like to provide the following actions we are taking to protect our members.”
According to the company, the compromised passwords have already been reset and users will receive an email with instructions. The dating service recommended that people create stronger passwords of at least eight characters, mixing upper and lower-case letters, numbers and symbols, use different passwords for each Internet site and change passwords every few months.
Santa Monica-based eHarmony has more than 20 million registered online users. So far, the official number of users affected by the breach wasn`t disclosed.
