HDB Financial Services has admitted that a cybersecurity incident has affected the company, and it seems to have created more than just a simple security problem. A hacker claims to have stolen and leaked data containing more than 72 million entries, Hackread reported.
The hacker who stole Acer Inc.’s data and tried to sell it online for Monero cryptocurrency now claims to have breached HDB Financial Services. The hacker, going by the name Kernelware, leaked 7.5 GB worth of customer information on a specialized forum.
According to Hackread, the data includes a lot of personal information, including full names, dates of birth, phone numbers and email addresses. Since this is a financial institution, much more customer data has been collected than in most other breaches.
Some of the other types of information leaked in this massive data breach include phone numbers, personal and work emails, marriage status, home address, employment application, transaction methods, bank names and branches, credit scores, transaction logs and much more.
HDFC Bank, the parent company, serves tens of millions of people in India, amplifying the possible extent of the leak’s effect. HDFC Bank denied that any data breach took place, but Hackread’s analysis of the leaked data shows that it contains info on consumers who applied for loans between May 2022 and February 2023, which is almost a full year.
Kernelware also boasted just a few days ago about hacking into Acer Inc. and stealing proprietary information that was then offered for sale on the same forums.
