Police Arrest Suspects in Theft of Six-Figure Crypto Investment from Senior Citizen

Law enforcement apprehended two suspects in the theft of significant amounts of crypto tokens from a man in his seventies.

Police arrests two suspects in crypto theft case

Two men have been taken into custody after a crypto scheme that defrauded a senior citizen of a six-figure investment.

During the scam in July last year, a 75-year-old man from Aberdeen fell prey to a scheme that led to losing crypto tokens worth an undisclosed “six-figure sum.”

After the crime was brought to their attention, police officers from Scotland, South Yorkshire, and England’s West Midlands took two men into custody.

The 54- and 36-year-old suspects were apprehended in Coventry and Mexborough on Feb. 18 and charged with crypto fraud offenses.

No additional details about the crime

As The Register reported, authorities disclosed no additional details about the case, including the perpetrators' identities or how they defrauded their target.

"This operation demonstrates our commitment to ensuring people are protected from fraud," said Police Scotland’s Detective Sergeant David Williamson. "We will do everything in our power to bring those responsible to justice. I would also encourage members of the public to be mindful of activity which appears fraudulent and to report this to police."

Crypto scams still plague the digital and physical realms

Although cryptocurrencies have gathered many enthusiasts enticed by the market’s volatility and the possibility of huge returns, they have also paved the way for a broad range of crypto scams.

Recently, Indian authorities recovered roughly $190 million of ill-amassed funds from a busted crypto Ponzi scheme.

In a similar scenario, a 51-year-old church pastor allegedly exploited his position to trick parishioners into investing in a crypto investment scam.
