Eddie Bauer Customer Credit Card Info Exposed in Malware Attack

US clothing chain Eddie Bauer has fallen victim to a malware attack that left customers” credit card information exposed to third parties.

“We have been working closely with the FBI, cyber security experts, and payment card organizations, and want to assure our customers that we have fully identified and contained the incident and that no customers will be responsible for any fraudulent charges to their accounts,” said Mike Egeck, Chief Executive Officer of Eddie Bauer.

Customers who shopped at Eddie Bauer physical stores in the US between January 2 and July 17, 2016 are advised to check their banking accounts for suspicious transactions and immediately inform the bank should they discover any illegal activity.

Considering all 350+ stores in North America have been hit, the company hasn”t issued a statement concerning the number of victims. However, the affected customers will be notified by Eddie Bauer representatives, the press release says. Credit card information from payments via the website was not affected.

In light of recent attacks on point of sale systems at HEI Hotels, restaurants and other retailers, forensic experts conclude the malware attack on Eddie Bauer may have been part of a more complex campaign.
