Alleged planned layoffs at game developer Zynga caused Anonymous to retaliate against what it calls the “end of the US game market as we know it.”
Anonymous claims to have confidential documents which confirm that 1,000 people will be laid off and hiring will be done in “other more convenient financial countries.” Legal action against those who disclose this information will be taken, says the Anonymous transcript.
“We have come to believe that the actions of Zynga will result in massive layoff of a thousand people and legal actions against everyone that speaks to the public about this plan,“ said Anonymous. “It will also come to end of the US game market as we know it as all these jobs will be replaced in other more convenient financial countries.“
Anonymous launched operation “maZYNGA”, promising to leak all Zynga games for free on Nov. 5. The date is also Guy Fawkes Day, a figure which became the Anonymous logo.
Although Zynga reported it has a cash stockpile of $1.6 billion, despite the $52.7 million it lost this quarter, solving its financial situation by laying off people triggered the new Anonymous operation.
“Such actions are an insult to the population and the behaviour of corporations like Zynga must change,“ Anonymous said. However, the hacker group said it will halt the operation and cancel the Zynga games leak if the company changes its policy.
“As we speak we are planning to release also all the games we’ve taken from their servers for free,“ said Anonymous. “That being said we will stop the idea of the distribution of such games if Zynga will cease immediately the plan.“
