Hacked Instagram Accounts Show Nutri-Spam

A round of attacks against Facebook-owned Instagram has ended badly for a number of users.

According to multiple user reports, the hacked accounts have been used by an unknown group to spam other followers with pictures of smoothies. More than that, a number of users have found that they had been locked out of their accounts, making it impossible for their legit owners to take down the messages.

According to other reports, some accounts have also been defaced and had their owners` bios replaced with links impersonating BBC News.

Instagram confirmed the hack in a statement for TheNextWeb: “Last night a small portion of our users experienced a spam incident where unwanted photos were posted from their accounts. Our security and spam team quickly took actions to secure the accounts involved, and the posted photos are being deleted.”

Instagram also sent an e-mail notification to affected users to announce the hack and have the account password changed.
