Molotov French Streaming Platform Reports Data Breach Impacting 10.8 Million Emails

Molotov, a popular French streaming platform that provides access to television channels on computers and connected TVs, has recently confirmed a serious data breach, acknowledging that its systems were infiltrated in October.

What was exposed

Molotov said about 10.8 million email addresses were exposed following unauthorized access. However, this number does not directly equate to 10.8 million individuals, as some may have registered with multiple email accounts. Alongside email addresses, other personal information, including first and last names and dates of birth, may have been accessed—if users had included these details in their profiles.

The good news is that Molotov assured users no financial data or passwords were involved.

The streaming service also said that while it contained the incident, users should exercise caution when dealing with suspicious emails, as cybercriminals could capitalize on the stolen data for phishing attempts by impersonating the company.

Molotov has yet to disclose specific details of how the breach occurred, but it has reported the incident to CNIL, the data protection authority in France.
