Google is rolling out updates to Chrome users worldwide addressing four important security holes on the Windows, Mac, and Linux versions of the popular web browser.
Risky flaws
Chrome 128 has undergone several important security fixes in the past few weeks, including an update to plug weaknesses exploited by attackers in the wild.
This week, Google is offering another incremental update which includes fixes for five security bugs, including four tagged ‘high risk’ by the technology giant.
“The Stable channel has been updated to 128.0.6613.137/.138 for Windows, Mac and 128.0.6613.137 for Linux which will roll out over the coming days/weeks,” writes Prudhvikumar Bommana for the Google Chrome team.
Weaknesses recently found in components like Skia, Media Router, Autofill, and Chrome’s V8 JavaScript engine, are rated ‘high’ risk, meaning a motivated attacker could compromise an unpatched system with a working exploit for these flaws.
Unpatched flaws in Google Chrome have been known to lead to spyware infections in targeted attacks.
Update your browser!
As always, Bitdefender strongly recommends you deploy security updates the moment they’re available – especially when the vulnerabilities addressed are labeled serious, or potentially exploited by threat actors in the wild.
To make sure you’re on the latest version, access Chrome’s settings pane, choose About Chrome, let the app fetch the latest update from Google’s servers, then relaunch Chrome.
Mobile users are not treated to a corresponding release this time around. However, it’s still a good idea to make sure your mobile version of Chrome is up to date - especially on Android, as all Chrome releases for Android pack the same security fixes as their desktop counterparts.
For peace of mind, consider a dedicated security solution for your personal devices.
