Hackers got their hands on US celebrities` finance details and posted them on a dedicated website suspected to be tied to Russia. Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Mel Gibson, Ashton Kutcher, Kim Kardashian and Britney Spears were among the stars that had private data displayed for all to see.
Hackers also targeted top government officials including US Vice-President Joe Biden, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, United States Attorney General Eric Holder along with FBI Director Robert Mueller and Los Angeles Police Department Chief Charlie Beck. In their case, crooks uploaded home addresses and other sensitive information but no credit reports.
“People get mad at us, go on the Internet and try to find information about us, and post it all on one site.” Los Angeles Police Commander Andrew Smith told BBC in the light of recent privacy invasion actions. “The best word I can use to describe it (the website) is creepy.”
Los Angeles Police plan to investigate the posting of any information about other show-biz celebs believed to be vulnerable to such hacks. The undisclosed website displays a wide range of private data such as social security numbers, addresses, mortgage amounts, credit card numbers, car loans, and banking information.
