As many of you already know, today is one of the most exciting days of the cybersecurity calendar – the launch of Bitdefender’s new consumer line, a yearly event that always brings with it advances to online security and foreshadows the direction of the entire industry.
And this year brings good news for fans of innovation, and seriously bad news for criminals, particularly those who use ransomware to extort innocent users, a tactic that surged 50-fold in the past year. Bitdefender 2016 harnesses the power of machine learning algorithms to fight off new and even unknown threats, including the feared ransomware threat.
Bitdefender is also easier to use now due to the new Bitdefender Central, the console that allows you to manage accounts, subscriptions and remote devices, and provides instant access to support. Bitdefender 2016 consumer products downloaded from Bitdefender Central accounts come pre-activated with the subscription and already linked to your customer account.

How the anti-ransomware feature works
To defeat ransomware, Bitdefender prevents untrusted applications from deleting or modifying files in important folders, such as My Documents, My Pictures, My Music and My Videos. The innovative Ransomware Behavioral Detection (RBD) also analyzes all applications for activity associated with ransomware and blocks any application that is taking steps to lock down your data, making your most important files safer than ever.
What are the machine-learning improvements?
Bitdefender’s advancements allow it to process vast quantities of data worldwide in milliseconds, to identify and neutralize new threats before they have a chance to spread. The new Firewall offers superior performance in pinpointing intrusions, by filtering incoming and outgoing traffic, even over a Wi-Fi network.
“Bitdefender’s latest consumer product line proves that the company’s technology evolves faster than malware,” said Bitdefender’s Chief Security Strategist Catalin Cosoi. “Ransomware, although it might seem a relatively new phenomenon for most, is already a thing of the past for Bitdefender users. And all other threats are effectively dealt with, while users maintain maximum computer performance and seamless user experience that we strive for in all our products.”
The new Bitdefender 2016 deploys features with a single click to keep your system running at top speed. By gradually molding itself to your system to visibly improve performance, Autopilot automatically takes the best security decisions for you, so you can focus on the task at hand.
All Bitdefender products have been ready to embrace Windows 10 since early July. Here is a short guide of what to expect in case you are running a Bitdefender antimalware product, be it Bitdefender Antivirus, Bitdefender Internet Security or Bitdefender Total Security, on a Windows OS.
