Payment and customer information are among data most often stored in the cloud, and they are considered the most at risk, according to a survey cited by Business Insights.
Seventy-three percent of respondents say their organizations are heavy (25 percent) or moderate (48 percent) cloud users. Participants in this study estimate that cloud use will increase over the next two years. Respondents say that 36 percent of their organizations” total IT and data processing requirements are met using cloud resources. This is expected to increase to an average of 45 percent in the next two years.
The chart below shows that cloud exposes customer data and payment information more than employee records or e-mails.
Ponemon Institute surveyed 3,476 IT and IT security practitioners in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, France, Japan, Russian Federation, India and Brazil.
