EA and Activision Servers Hit by Lizard Squad; DDoS against FIFA, Madden, Sims 4, Call of Duty and Destiny

The hackers collective Lizard Squad has disrupted a series of EA and Activision servers in the past two weeks, according to Forbes.

The distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack seems to have temporarily taken down popular titles such as EA’s FIFA, Madden and Sims 4, as well as Activision’s Destiny and Call of Duty: Ghosts.

“We’re predicting a lot of mad gamers this weekend,” the hackers tweeted.”Woah, I think there are some Ghosts haunting Destiny,” they said on Twitter two days after.

Destiny was hit worst, as all its functionality relies on live servers. Others, such as the FIFA series, Madden and Call of Duty, have offline or single player campaign modes.

The Lizard Squad is well known for the taking down Microsoft’s Xbox Live and Sony’s PlayStation Network, but the group recently attracted the FBI’s attention after tweeting a bomb threat against Sony’s executive. The American Airlines flight was grounded, leading a national hackers` manhunt.

The hackers group also announced it would disband after the FBI started the manhunt: “We set out on our journey 2 weeks ago with the plan to cause havoc within the gaming community.”

“Our motives varied throughout this adventure […] we proved that even though we are little in this very big world, that a small group of friends who work together can cause a lot of havoc without legal repercussions.”

The group also apparently discovered that getting kicked out of an online game after extensive advancement is sure to raise the ire of any serious gamer.
