Evernote and Feedly Disrupted by Distributed Denial-of-Service Attacks

Services of online notes and web clipping service Evernote were disrupted today by a distributed denial-of-service attack, the company announced on Twitter. RSS reader Feedly`s services were also disrupted in a separate attack at the same time.

The services of Evernote were up and running again three hours after the second announcement. So far the source of the attack is unknown as it started on Tuesday at 21:25 (UTC/GMT) and it ended today at 02:20 (UTC/GMT). The company announced an hour after the first tweet that they were working to mitigate the attack.

“We continue to mitigate the effects of the attack, but have successfully returned Evernote to service,” spokeswoman Ronda Scott told The BBC. “As is the nature of DDoS attacks, there was no data loss, and no accounts were compromised.”

This is not Evernote`s first experience with a cyber-attack, as last year they issued a security notice on suspicious activity for all users after a coordinated attack.

Feedly says no data was compromised during the attack on its services, which was apparently separate from the Evernote incident.

“The attacker is trying to extort us money to make it stop,” Feedly said in a blog post. “We refused to give in and are working with our network providers to mitigate the attack as best as we can.”
