Facebook has launched a how-to Privacy Guide, and announced it will update its terms and policies early next year, according to a message on the company website. The update comes soon after the social network was blamed for not taking action on the murder of soldier Lee Rigby, The Independent writes.
The social media platform hosted a chat conversation by one of Rigby’s killers five months ahead of the attack. The killer talked about his plans in “the most graphic and emotive manner,” according to the UK’s Intelligence and Security Committee. The organization told The BBC that Facebook didn`t seem to consider it an obligation to identify and report such exchanges.
“Like everyone else, we were horrified by the vicious murder of Fusilier Lee Rigby,” Facebook representatives said. “We don’t comment on individual cases but Facebook’s policies are clear, we do not allow terrorist content on the site and take steps to prevent people from using our service for these purposes.”
The social network sent worldwide notifications about the new terms of service, warning that the very use of the platform makes up for an agreement.
“By using our services after January 1, 2015, you agree to our updated terms, data policy, and cookies policy and to seeing improved ads based on apps and sites you use,” Facebook`s notification reads. “Learn more below about these updates and how to control the ads you see.”
The ËœPrivacy Basics` page provides details on how to control Facebook information, and shows users how to opt out of targeted ads. The guide also teaches users about untagging, unfriending, blocking and how to choose an audience for their posts. The information is available in 36 languages.
Facebook also announced it`s testing a ËœBuy` button to allow users to shop without leaving the web site. The announcement comes soon after Twitter announced the launch of the Offers button for US customers.
