Hungarian Woman Admits to Conspiracy in $550,000 eBay Card Fraud

A Hungarian woman admitted to conspiring to steal $550,000 in an eBay card fraud together with her male partner, according to the US Department of Justice. In total, 36 victims were lured into sending money to fake accounts, 17 opened by the woman with bogus Hungarian passports.

Beatrix Boka, 34, pleaded guilty before the U.S. District Court in Tennessee to conspiracy to commit bank and wire fraud. Her partner, Aleksandar Kunkin, also of Hungary, pleaded guilty a week earlier. Both admitted to scamming people with cars available for sale at online marketplaces such as eBay.

“When victims expressed interest in purchasing the vehicles, co-conspirators sent emails that directed victims to wire payments to certain bank accounts, and victims never received the vehicles for which they paid,” the judicial report reads.

Boka and Kunkin were arrested while attempting to open new accounts at Bank of America. The Hungarian woman faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
