A new organization named Internet Defense League is joining the fight against CISPA and other such organizations in the hopes of acting as an early-warning system against online privacy threats.
The self-appointed internet freedom fighter group, led by Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, hopes to strike hard and early at federal bills such as SOPA or PIPA . By signing up websites to help spread the word of any similar Congressional action, the Internet Defense League could help set up petitions, call legislators or boycott companies with unprecedented organizational skills.
“When the Internet`s in danger and we need millions of people to act, the League will ask its members to broadcast an action (Say, a prominent message asking everyone to call their elected leaders),” the group said on its Website. “With the combined reach of our Websites and social networks, we can be massively more effective than any one organization.”
The Cyber-Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA) is attacked by other online entities that don`t see eye to eye with what it represents and although threatened by a veto from the Obama administration, it still reached the Senate.
“The Internet Defense League takes the tactic that killed SOPA & PIPA and turns it into a permanent force for defending the internet, and making it better. Think of it like the internet’s Emergency Broadcast System, or its bat signal,” said the group.
