Updates
It is recommend that you have an up-to-date security program if you want to stay ahead of cybersecurity threats.
If you are connected to the Internet through broadband or DSL, Bitdefender Endpoint Security Tools (BEST) takes care of this automatically. By default, BEST checks for updates when you turn on your computer and every hour after that.
Note
The default automatic update frequency may be changed by your network administrator.
During the update process, the files that need to be updated are replaced progressively. This way, the update process does not affect product operation and, therefore, leaves no room for vulnerabilities.
If you are connected to the Internet through a dial-up connection, it is recommended to regularly update BEST manually. For more information, refer to Performing an Update.
Types of Updates
Updates come in the following forms:
Security Content updates - as new threats appear, the files containing malware signatures must be updated to ensure permanent, up-to-date protection against malicious activity.
Product updates - when a new product version is released, new features and scan techniques are introduced to improve the performance of the product.
Checking if your BEST is up-to-date
To check if your BEST is up-to-date, follow these steps:
Right-click the BEST icon in the system tray and choose About.
You can see the update status, the most recent update check, and update installation.
For detailed information about the latest updates, check the update events:
In the main window, click the Filter button.
In the Filters menu, click the Update button. The latest updates are displayed in the Events timeline.
You can see when updates were initiated, whether they were successful or not, if they require a restart to complete the installation. If a restart is required, do so at your earliest convenience.
Performing an update
To perform updates, an Internet connection is required.
To start an update you must:
Double-click the Bitdefender Endpoint Security Tools icon in the system tray.
Click the Actions button.
In the Actions menu, click Check for updates. The Update module will connect to the Bitdefender Update Server and it will check for updates.
Depending on the update settings configured by your network administrator, if an update is detected, it will either be performed automatically or you will be asked to confirm it.
Important
If a restart is required, do so at your earliest convenience. It is recommended to restart the system as soon as possible.
