Digest generation and Quarantines
Email Security checks each email against the rules set up in the Message Rules page. Each rule has a set of conditions and, if met, will apply an action or a final action.
When an action is applied, the message will be ran against the next message rule. When a final action is applied, no more rules will be checked.
Email Security comes with a default set of rules, that include the Confirmed Phishing, Confirmed Spam, and Possible Spam rule. These rules are used to determine the likelyhood the message poses a threat. This is determined by the Spam Score a message generates after being ran through the Email Security Message Rules. Depending on the final score, the message is either quarantined or digested (recipients will receive a digest summary of email in their quarantine).
Note
For more information on system rules see Default Rules.
By default, messages are classified using Spam Score thresholds:
If the score is less than
100
, no action will be taken. If the score is between
100
and140
, the message will be quarantined(Personal Quarantine), digested and available to users. This action is enforced by the Possible Spam rule.Note
Mailboxes included in any safelists will be excluded from this rule.
If the score is between
140
and699
will be sent to the Company Quarantine and will not be digested. This action is enforced by the Confirmed Spam rule.Note
Mailboxes included in any safelists will be excluded from this rule.
If the score is greater than
700
, the message will be sent to Company Quarantine and will not be digested. This action is enforced by the Confirmed Phishing rule.Note
Only mailboxes included in global safelists will be excluded from this rule.
Tip
You can configure digest emails from the Global Digest Settings and Personal Digest Settings sections of the Product Configuration page.
Important
If you feel that the default rules are too aggressive, there are steps you can take to customize spam filtering rules. For more information refer to Modifying Spam filtering rules.
